Ep14_Alopecia (Hair Loss) Should Never Be a Woman's Worst Fear (Ginny Baker)

Alopecia. Sounds like a beach resort town or a fancy Italian dish. But as host Erika Seamayer-Williamson learns in this episode, alopecia is neither. Rather, it's a medical condition that occurs when the immune system attacks hair follicles, and may be brought on by severe stress.

Imagine you're 15, captain of your high school drill team, with a beautiful head full of blonde wavy hair...and one day you discover you have alopecia. You're entire teenage world would be turned upside down.

That's what happened to Ginny Baker, the featured guest on this episode of Amazing Grace Talk. Her discussion with Erika traces Ginny's life's journey through many doctor visits, medical treatments, self-image issues, public perceptions, wigs, hats, and how she handled hair returning then falling off again....numerous times throughout the last 15-20 years.

With her loving mom by her side they did in fact find a treatment that worked and also found a makeup artist who was able to tattoo her eyebrows and eyeliner for her so that she could feel "normal" again and make getting ready in the morning easier and less stressful.

Ginny has embraced this condition with grace and even humor. One of Ginny's favorite Bible verses is Luke 12:7 "Even the hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows."

This episode will inspire listeners to never judge yourself or judge others by outward appearances....and to see the good that is often wrapped up in times of unexplainable trials.
